Animals and Wild Life

Over the past few years I have been asked to paint owners’ dogs some of which you will see here. I like to see the dog first to get to know a bit about his/her character. Then I take copious photographs before roughly sketching the dog long before starting to paint. So far, I am pleased to say all the owners have been delighted with the end result!

Over the past three years I have painted smaller painting of birds and butterflies. This is quite different from how I usually paint and I find it quite therapeutic to paint smaller pictures in oil using very fine brushes. The birds are usually garden birds and the butterflies the same.

Quite a few people have disclosed an interest in hares and I find them fascinating as well, so I have a couple of hare painting left but there are also prints available.

Cows are another fascination and I really like painting them. I once sat in a field in Alfriston painting cows. They took no notice of me. Sheep, and there are many here is Sussex, are fascinating to paint and apart from once, they tend to ignore my presence.
